Meeting with Sharon Draper

A few days ago I knew that some of our high school students would have a meeting with Sharon Draper in U.S. Embassy in Armenia. The first thoughts that came to my mind were that we would be bored as nearly all writers are boring. I was thinking that Sharon would tell us about her life, how many books she has and something like that. But after this meeting, I can say that I was 100% wrong. The title of the meeting was “How and why I tell stories”. As I love to compose it was pretty interesting for me. And also we have done some interesting tasks which I would like to share with you. So, take one piece of paper, and no pan. You have only one minute to write a poem. Turn on the timer. After one minute take your result. It is not important what you have made because the poem is your feelings and you can’t simulate it. The next one was a musical part. Sharon turned to classical music and said what colors we saw.
And also I knew that the writer should write following some important staff. The reader should smell the words, see the colors and of course imagine the situation during reading. After a while and tasty break was waiting for us. Afterwards, we had to write a short story and during our story writing, Sharon was changing music and I can say that sometimes music helps a writer to feel better than she could expect. After all this, there was a little surprise for all of us. They gave us one of her books with her signature, the book is in Armenian and I’m so excited to read it.
